Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority
The apex nodal body responsible for formulation of disaster management policies, coordinating hazard response, and implementing integrated risk reduction structures across Sikkim.
Establishment & Mandate
SSDMA was constituted under the statutory provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. It functions under the Department of Land Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Sikkim. The Authority coordinates closely with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to localize central policies while managing local geological hazards.
With a landscape highly vulnerable to landslides, flash floods, and severe earthquakes, SSDMA focuses heavily on building resilient physical and institutional infrastructure, early warning communication grids, and decentralized rapid-response volunteer corps.
Our Vision
To build a safer, resilient, and fully prepared state by minimizing vulnerability risks and maximizing community emergency management preparedness.
Our Mission
To institutionalize disaster risk mitigation and establish state-of-the-art coordination, emergency rescue plans, and relief delivery frameworks.
Core Institutional Objectives
- Formulate responsive state disaster plan guidelines and mitigation priorities.
- Establish state training curriculums for local first responders and communities.
- Integrate diverse resources to secure early alert networks on critical high lakes.
